Our Read This believes that clear, comfortable vision is your right and your priority. Many of our patients that are partially to legally blind who cannot be helped with standard glasses or medical treatment have come to us for our low vision therapy program.
Our low vision therapy program uses tools such as telescopes, special microscopic reading glasses, magnifying aides, closed circuit television, electronic aides, and lighting devises to help our low vision patients. This program is a highly effective vision rehabilitation process that restores vision and functionality to individuals suffering from low vision disabilities (such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and certain types of stroke-related vision disorders). Our Buck Town optometrist will work with you to maximize the use of your remaining vision, improve or maintain reading abilities by means of our visual training program, modify activities and environment in order to increase safety and independence, select appropriate assistive devices, use assistive devices and adaptive equipment to compensate for decrease vision, and help you access community support groups and resources. At Chicago Vision Club, our certified low vision therapists develop and conduct a functional assessment of visual abilities for everyday tasks that are important to the individual with low vision. Everyday visual tasks might include reading, writing, moving through space, grooming, watching television, cooking, cleaning, household repair, finding lost objects, or other educational, vocational or recreational pursuits. The nature and extent of services needed is guided by the results of the functional assessment.
