It is very important that you visit us at Chicago Vision Club if you are showing any signs of an eye infection. This is because even a small eye infection can end up causing a serious vision problems – even blindness – if left untreated for a period of time. Our Chicago Illinois optometrist is highly trained in diagnosing and treating eye infections in both adults and children.
If you wear contact lenses, you may be particularly prone to developing an eye infection. This is because the eyes can become infected when you touch your eyes or contact lenses with hands which have not been freshly washed, or your contact lenses have not been properly disinfected. Keratitis is one common and serious eye infection which is often related to contact lens wear. Another very common and highly contagious eye infection is conjunctivitis. In fact, many children who are in daycare or elementary school come home with this eye infection which can be easily treated when diagnosed early. Sometimes eye allergies can mimic the symptoms of some eye infections, but it is always important that our Chicago Illinois optometrist sees you to determine whether or not an eye infection is present. Signs of having an eye infection can include: an eye that is painful; a feeling that there is something in the eye that cannot be removed; an increased sensitivity to light; a watery discharge from the eye; a yellow, green, or bloody discharge from the eye; redness of the eye or eyelid; a sore on the colored part of the eye; unexplained fever; blurred vision; or vision that is decreased in some manner. A person may have only a few or all of these symptoms if they have an eye infection.
If you think you have an eye infection, you should make an immediate appointment to see our Chicago Illinois optometrist. Let our office staff know the reason for your call so that they can have you seen by our doctor on an emergency basis.
